Sports physiotherapy in Águilas: get back to competing without relapsing.

I am the Águilas F.C. physiotherapist, a Primera Federación club, and at my clinic I treat amateur, club and professional athletes from Águilas and the surrounding area. We assess your sporting movement and the whole injury chain, not just the painful spot, and we discharge you when you meet objective criteria, not when it stops hurting.

PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

Águilas F.C. physiotherapist, Primera Federación

I work day to day in the dressing room of a club in the third tier of Spanish football: acute injuries in the middle of a match, recovery timelines that have to hold up under competitive pressure, and return-to-play decisions that have to be defended every weekend.

That is exactly the criterion I apply with you at the clinic. It makes no difference whether you play at El Rubial or on Sundays with your friends: the way we assess the injury, dose the load and decide when you are ready is the same.

What changes when treatment is genuinely sports-focused

The difference from a generic session is not on the couch. It is in what gets assessed, what gets measured and the criteria used to decide you can go back.

We assess the movement, not just the area

A knee tendinopathy in a runner and in a padel player is not treated the same way, even though the tissue is the same. We analyse how you move in your sport and which part of the chain is failing, which is often not where it hurts.

Discharge on criteria, not on feelings

We measure strength, neuromuscular control and sport-specific movement, and compare the injured side with the healthy one before discharging you. Returning too early is the most common cause of relapse, and with data in front of you it is much harder to get it wrong.

Sports injuries we treat at the Águilas clinic

These are the most common reasons athletes come to see us. If your case is not listed here, message us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Muscle tears and injuries

Hamstrings, calf, adductors and quadriceps. We set the loading phases from day one so the tissue heals well and does not turn into a recurring injury.

Overuse tendinopathies

Achilles, patellar, rotator cuff, tennis elbow. The core treatment is well-dosed progressive loading; the other techniques support it, they don't replace it.

Shoulder pain in athletes

Swimmers, padel and tennis players, and throwing sports. We work on mobility, scapular control and movement-specific strength.

Knee pain when running

Patellofemoral pain, iliotibial band and the typical runner's overload injuries. We also review volume, footwear and training progression.

Overload and muscle knots

What appears when you increase load too quickly or compete without recovering. They often resolve in a few sessions if training is adjusted too.

Four phases from injury to competing again

At every point you know which phase you are in, what is missing to move to the next one and how long it may take.

Assessment

History of the injury, your sport and your real training load. Physical examination, movement assessment and ultrasound if it adds something. You leave the first appointment knowing what you have and what timelines we are working with.

Pain and load control

We reduce symptoms and protect the tissue without stopping you completely. Manual therapy, invasive techniques when indicated, and adjustments to what you can keep doing in the meantime.

Regaining strength and control

The phase most often skipped and the one that prevents the most relapses. Progressive exercise until you regain strength on the injured side and the neuromuscular control your sport demands.

Return to play and discharge

Sport-specific movement, changes of direction, jumps, speed or whatever your sport demands. We discharge you when you pass the tests, with a prevention plan for the following weeks.

The goal is not for you to stop having pain. It is for you to return to your sport with the capacity you had before, and not go through the same thing again in three months.

Which tools we use and when they make sense

No technique cures on its own. They are used when they add something concrete to the case, always alongside exercise, which is what sustains the result.

Percutaneous neuromodulation

Needle stimulation of the nerve to modulate pain and improve muscle activation in specific cases, especially when there is inhibition after an injury.

Manual therapy and therapeutic exercise

The foundation of treatment. Manual therapy opens the window to move better; progressive exercise is what consolidates the result in the long term.

When to start here and when I refer you first

Start with us if…

  • You got injured training or competing and you want to come back properly, not quickly.
  • You have had a niggle for weeks that always appears with the same movement.
  • You have already been discharged but you don't trust the joint, the movement or the leg.
  • You have relapsed more than once with the same injury.
  • You want a second opinion on the timelines you have been given.

I refer you to a doctor first if…

  • There is a suspected fracture or the trauma was high-energy.
  • There is unexplained loss of strength or progressive neurological symptoms.
  • There is fever, general malaise or signs of infection.
  • The joint is very swollen, hot and with no clear cause.
  • We suspect something that needs medical imaging before treatment.

If your case is not for us, we tell you at the first appointment and point you in the right direction. We would rather lose a session than make you lose weeks.

Pedro Mula Vidal

I am a registered physiotherapist, founder of Clínica MuVi and Águilas F.C. physiotherapist, which competes in Primera Federación. I work mainly with athletes: people who compete and people who train for their health, but who in both cases want to get back to what they were doing without fear of relapsing.

I give each patient 45 to 60 minutes, use ultrasound and invasive techniques when they add something real to the case, and I finish every session having explained what you have and what needs doing. If your injury needs a medical assessment before treatment, I tell you from day one.

Got an injury that never quite goes away?

Start with an assessment. You leave knowing what you have and how long until you can get back.

Frequently asked questions about sports physiotherapy

How is sports physiotherapy different from a normal session?

In the goal. A generic session aims to stop the pain. Sports physiotherapy also aims to get you back to your sport with the capacity you had before, or better. That means assessing your sporting movement, the load you handle in training and competition, and measuring strength and control before discharging you.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the tissue and the stage you arrive at. Muscle overload can resolve in 2 or 3 sessions; a muscle tear or a long-standing tendinopathy needs weeks of progressive work. At the initial assessment I give you a realistic estimate and explain what it depends on. We don't sell closed packages before knowing what you have.

Do you use ultrasound in the assessment?

Yes, when it gives information that changes the treatment. Musculoskeletal ultrasound lets us see the state of the tissue in real time and guide invasive techniques precisely. It is not a medical diagnostic test and does not replace an MRI: it is a functional assessment tool within the session.

When can I go back to training and competing?

When you meet objective criteria, not when it stops hurting. We use tests of strength, neuromuscular control and sport-specific movement, and compare the injured side with the healthy one. Returning too early is the most common cause of relapse.

Do you see amateur athletes or only club players?

Both. Most of our patients are amateur athletes: people who run, go to the gym, play padel or football at weekends. The method is the same; what changes are the discharge requirements, depending on what you need to do.

Does dry needling hurt?

It causes a brief cramping sensation when the trigger point releases, and it is normal to feel soreness in the area for 24-48 hours. It is not pleasant, but it is tolerable and short-lived. If you would rather not have it, there are alternatives and we respect that.

Can you coordinate with my coach or my club?

Yes, and it is highly recommended in the return-to-play phase. If you ask us to, we adjust the plan to your training loads and give you specific guidance on what you can do and what to avoid each week.

Is it true you work with Águilas F.C.?

Yes. I am the physiotherapist of Águilas F.C., which competes in Primera Federación this season. That means I treat injuries every day under real competitive demands, with tight timelines and return-to-play decisions that have to be backed by objective criteria. At the clinic I apply that same method to any athlete, whether they compete or not.

Do you work outside Águilas?

We see patients at the clinic in the centre of Águilas and regularly treat people from Lorca, Mazarrón, Pulpí and the surrounding area. If you can't travel, we offer home physiotherapy at its own rate, and online physiotherapy for following up your exercise plan.

Get back to your sport with a plan, not a hunch.
